Thanks again for this precious little guy!
Today is the fourth birthday of one of the world’s smartest cats: Winston was born 4/9/2014 at Ouachita to Dam Slate and Sire Col. Potter, in a litter of 5, all of whom looked just like him. I’ve intended to email you many times to ask if the adopted humans of his littermates have ever contacted you to rave about what a great cat they got. If you ever hear from anybody who wants to contact me, feel free to give out my email, so we can brag to each other about our respective cats.
Winston lives in Fostoria, OH with his BSH bi-color sister from Ouachita, Catrine, born 4/26/10, daughter of Katrina and Darcy Darkstranger, and a female American SH classic silver tabby from Michigan. Winston is the 5th cat we’ve ever had and the first male, and we were very surprised at how different he is from all the girls. While the females want to eat and sleep 90% of the time, this boy is constantly exploring, supervising, psychoanalyzing, guarding, and generally managing the household. While he is so active all day, he’s willing to be a lap cat in the evening, and prefers TV shows including cat specials on NatGeoWild, and The Simpsons.
The most remarkable thing, however, is his manual dexterity. He owns 5 different Trixie brand dog puzzles that I bought on Amazon.com, in which the dog is supposed to pull levers, remove stoppers, manipulate a joystick, and do other calculated movements to open trapdoors in a treat-dispensing machine. He can handle difficulty level “Dog 4,” which is just about the hardest one. Sometimes, he doesn’t even care about the treat; he just opens the compartments and lets the girls swarm in to grab the freeze-dried chicken. His vocabulary is pretty good; although I haven’t counted up the words and phrases that I can guarantee that he knows, I can tell you that he clearly understands 3-word sentences like, “Winston TV Mama?” in which he’ll immediately race to jump into the La-Z-Boy in front of the TV; or “Winston chicky toy?” in which he goes crazy and runs to find one of those dog puzzles.
The second photo below was taken last summer after my husband built a catio that the kids can access from a bedroom window. There is a tree with a lot of bird and squirrel activity very close to the catio, so it provides a lot of entertainment in good weather.
I think of you often and wanted to take the opportunity to email you on Winston’s birthday to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful little soul.
